SWIRE PROJECTS DELIVERS BARGES FOR IMPROVED EFFICIENCIES
5 September 2024 – Utilising our versatile multipurpose I-Type vessel, the Pacific Innovation (19,600 DWT, 2x240t cranes), we recently shipped four heavy units of barges from Vietnam to Australia and New Zealand for a shipbuilding and marine services client.
The shipment included two units of feeding barges, one 25 meters long weighing 222 tons, and another 34 meters long weighing 250 tons; as well as two units of 28 meters long dumb barges weighing approximately 80 to 107 tons each. Lifting the barges was no small feat and required precise planning to ensure a safe and successful operation. Utilising our vessel’s heavy lift cranes capacity, Pacific Innovation performed a combination of single and tandem lifts to load the four units on board, lifted directly from the water. Occupying full deck space with other cargoes, our vessel crew, together with our cargo superintendents, performed careful lifts and controlled manoeuvring of the barges to land them into safe stowage positions.
The new barges are intended to support a seafood production company with its fish farming operations, driving cost savings, and promoting a more sustainable farming and safer fish feeding systems.
Another job accomplished successfully and safely, thanks to the precision planning and impressive teamwork!
